Steve moved to Annapolis 20 years ago from Durban, South Africa, where he spent many years cruising and racing offshore in the Indian Ocean and along Transkei’s notorious Wild Coast. His proven offshore experience allows him to anticipate and prevent some of the common rigging and system failures that can occur when conditions deteriorate.

As co-owner of M Yacht Services, Steve heads up ‘M Rigging’, which specializes in the upgrade and refit of blue water sailboats. He also has a variety of interests and experiences which enhance his ability to connect with clients. Steve continues to race weekly including the Frostbite Series; he crewed on the Division 1 winner of the Annapolis to Bermuda race, and he takes time to make at least two offshore sailing trips per year. Keen to share his experiences with others, Steve offers regular seminars on rigging and offshore upgrades to the Salty Dawgs rally and the World Cruising Caribbean 1500, where M Yachts is an official corporate sponsor. Beginning with an apprenticeship with Sparcraft in the ’80s, Steve continues to value professional development; he keeps up with current trends in the industry and continues to expand his knowledge. Steve is a staple at the Annapolis US Sailboat Show; he can be found in the M Yachts booth on the floating dock, where he is usually consulting with clients and sharing sailing experiences. With over 30 years of hands-on rigging experience and over 30,000 offshore cruising and racing miles, Steve can consult on all aspects of above deck maintenance and offshore preparedness. He is known for his ability to think outside the box with creative and innovative ideas and designs.

Marc Mayo

Marc Mayo

Marc was born and raised in Zimbabwe and graduated from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating, Marc traveled to the Caribbean, where he spent many years as Mate and Engineer on a variety of large sailboats cruising between the BVI’s and the Grenadines.

During his years in the Caribbean, he also delivered boats north each summer for extensive refitting at various yards in South Florida. Keen to expand his knowledge and face new challenges, he joined a French company where he managed a service crew refitting large motor yachts to satisfy European safety specifications for commercial vessels.

Marc’s love of boating led him to Annapolis in 1995, and as co-owner of M Yacht Services, he manages the technical side of the business. His depth of knowledge and experience allows him to effectively consult on, design, and implement all aspects of boat building required for maintenance, refit, and upgrade. His commitment to professional development and numerous marine certifications has kept him abreast of industry trends.

His extensive experience aboard sail and powerboats enables him to anticipate the needs of his clients and offer innovative and educated solutions. He is well known for his organized mindset, work ethic, and attention to detail.

Marc is currently restoring a Columbia Sabre 33 but in the interim spends time on the water in the family Mako. When he’s not thinking about boats, he’s training for his next marathon.
